YEAH!!! Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! Camp Speers was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =) =) =) YEEEEEAAAAAHH!!! Okay so what did I learn this week?
WEEEELL I learned that bogs have tanic acid produced by a special plant that will turn your skin and anything in the bog into this creepy wrinkly leather...Don't go in the bog....
Cranberries and peat can also be found in bogs. This one part of the bog looked like it was eight inches deep. I'm not joking the counselor was like how deep is that and we were all like eight inches, then someone was like three feet and I was like no waaaaay. The counselor pulled out a stick that went on forever out of this tiny spot...It was FIVE feet deep!!! All the peat and decomposed plants make the bog like quicksand...
(Note: 1. Bogs are very acidic and 2. have lots of peat. 3.Tanic acid tans leather.=))
Then we heard of this man who was found in the bog...He was more than a thousand years old...perfectly preserved...they could even see his dinner...his skin was a bit wrinkled but perfect condition...when they lifted him out his bones were turned to JELL-O by the acid... He also was supposed to be a sacrifice to the Gods so his village poisoned him with mistletoe, banged him on the head, slit his throat, and dumped him in the bog...poor dude...
(Note: 4. mistletoe is poisonous=))
Then we were looking at a bunch of rocks moved by a glacier. They were sedimentary rocks because they had layers. This type of glacier movement is called the Wisconsin Slide.
(Note: 5. I didn't know it was called the Wisconsin Slide=))
YAY!!! That some of the things I learned at camp and thought were kinda coolyo =)
